A million Times Copper

These artworks are created through an intricate process called electroforming, in which a structural metal deposit of copper is slowly built up on a conductive surface to create the artwork body over a period of days. To achieve this, Humans since 1982 have partnered with one of the best craftsman in this field: Jan Eugster - who also works for artists such as Rudolf Stingel, Urs Fischer and Elmgreen & Dragset.

Similar to the way that stone or marble grow over a period of years, this process means each copper artwork has a unique surface appearance called patina.

Variations in the tone and colouration from artwork to artwork are a natural quality achieved through this method of production, which is very rarely achieved at this scale.

As copper is a living metal, with time each copper artwork will naturally and subtly vary in colour according to its particular environment and conditions, making each artwork within this edition as individual as the space in which they are exhibited.
