Humans since 1982 is an owner-led, independent studio. We create meaningful and elegant objects designed with longevity in mind. Our works are built to perform, be maintained and enjoyed for decades.

Each work is produced with careful attention to detail and conceived as part of a limited series. The objects are developed with a focus on enduring quality, locally sourced materials where possible, and a considered use of resources.

The timeless design and modular construction of the kinetic works emphasize durability and longevity—qualities that form an important basis for sustainable objects. Our dedicated service framework supports the artworks throughout their lifespan.

While the works exist as exclusive objects, the ideas behind them remain open and accessible. The studio therefore works in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner, bringing together an international network of designers, engineers, and specialists whose diverse skills contribute to the development of each project.

In creation, something must determine form. Over 100 years ago, architect Louis Sullivan declared that the functionality and purpose of a thing determine its form, a maxim that has since conquered the world.

Since the studio's establishment in 2009, the founders of Humans since 1982 have expressed their belief that 'being fascinated' is a fundamental human need. Fulfilling this need through an object also becomes a function, which in turn determines its form

Therefore, in 2010, Humans since 1982 held their first solo exhibition under the title 'Form follows fascination,' an expression that has since epitomized the essence of the studio's design philosophy. Anchored in this adapted phrase, we made it our mission to bring fascination to people through collectible art and design.
